Time to start assessing the damage caused by the floods

Sunday has been a day when many people have been trying to salvage what belongings they can from flooded buildings as well as time for the authorities to begin the process of assessing the damage, both in material and financial terms.

Flood death toll reaches eight

A total of eight people have lost their lives in Andalucia during the storms of the past couple of days and many hundreds had to be rescued or evacuated from their homes in towns and villages throughout the region.

Outlook for autumn is ‘dry’

Autumn is just a week away and apart from the odd shower expected in the next few days, the outlook is currently ‘dry’, which is becoming worrying for farmers in Andalucia.

Back to school part two

A total of 878,891 students in Andalucia – Secondary, Adult Education, Bachillerato and others – start back at schools and colleges today after the summer break. Although the number of students remains the same, the number of teachers does not.

Andalucia would accept financial aid if the conditions were acceptable

In a TV interview, the president of the Junta de Andalucia, José Antonio Griñán, acknowledged that Andalucia would have no difficulty accepting financial aid from the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FRA) as long as the rates were acceptable and there were no political conditions attached.

Nearly one million pupils, 561,357 Primary and 393,433 Kindergarten, return to school on Monday after the summer break with Secondary and other schools starting on September 17th.

Unemployment in Andalucia up by 1.02% in August

Unemployment in Andalucia rose by 10,365 (1.02%) in August bringing the total number of officially unemployed in the region to 1,026,081. Unemployment rose in twelve regions, most notably Andalucia, and fell in five regions with Galicia top of the list.

Andalucia does not rule out applying for financial assistance

Responding to questions from reporters in Huelva following Cataluña’s decision to request a bailout, the Minister of the Presidency and Equality of the Junta de Andalucia, Susana Díaz, said that Andalucia ‘does not rule out the possibility of making use of the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FLA).

School dining room monitors to be paid hourly rate and not flat fee

The Education Department of the Junta de Andalucia has changed the rules relating to payments to teachers performing extracurricular activities, such as morning room monitor and lunch monitor, in order to provide greater efficiency in the organization and operation of these complementary services.
