Marbella unemployment hits 14,000
According to the Andalucian Employment Service, 696 people lost their jobs in Marbella during September bringing the total unemployed in the city to 14,000. It is the worst September increase since detailed unemployment statistics began back in 2005.

Three climbers rescued in the Alpujarras
Three climbers, two of them injured, have been rescued from the Poqueira area in the Alpujarra mountains in Granada province.

Overall hotel and rural villa occupancy rates in Andalucia for the long ‘puente’ weekend are at 62.1%, with 625,565 overnight stays currently having been booked. However, given the propensity for last minute bookings, this figure is expected to rise to 75.4% occupancy and 762,816 overnight stays. Bookings in coastal areas are at around 68%.
14 domestic violence fatalities in Andalucia
A total of fourteen women in Andalucia have died at the hands of their partners so far this year, the latest victim being an 80-year-old woman who was found dead at her Málaga home on Wednesday.
Immigrant armada
More than 300 illegal immigrants have arrived along the Spanish coast in the past few days including the first boat to arrive on the island of Mallorca so far this year.
Flu vaccinations to begin
The annual flu vaccination campaign begins tomorrow with 1.4 million doses available in Andalucia. These vaccines will be dispensed in health centres and the priority groups to be immunized against the flu virus are those aged over 65, the chronically ill, morbidly obese, pregnant women, health service personnel and those serving the public.
114 illegal immigrants intercepted off the Granada coast
A total of 114 immigrants of the illegal variety were rescued off the coasts of Almeria and Motril, Granada province, last night.
General strike looms
