Unemployment in Spain rose during the second quarter of 2010 with a record 4,645,500 people now unemployed, 20.9% of the working population.
Crime rate down
Figures for the first six months of this year show a 5.97% decrease in crime in Andalucia when compared to the same period last year. A total of 35,571 people were arrested and crime detection rates also increased.
Healthy eating in schools
As from September, the start of the new academic year, the Ministry of Health of the Junta de Andalucia is going to take a more active supervisory role when it comes to school meals, an action being carried out in conjunction with the Ministry of Education.

Chiringuitos in Andalucia will not apply IVA hike
The president of the Federación Andaluza de Empresarios de Playas (Faeplayas), Norberto del Castillo, has said that chiringuitos in Andalucia will not be applying the July 1st IVA increase from 16% to 18%.
Police seize over one ton of cocaine

International visitors
The number of international tourists arriving in Andalucia in May was 789,.846, an increase of 6.5% over the same month last year. This was despite almost 5,000 flights being cancelled as a result of the Icelandic volcano eruption.
