The Education Department of the Junta de Andalucía will today start distributing 173,000 laptop computers to pupils in the region under the Ministry of Education programme ‘Escuela Tic 2.0’.

Agricultural losses in Andalucia
Provisional estimates by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries put losses in the agriculture and horticulture sectors as a result of the bad weather at around 30%.

Andalucía to top the biodiesel league
Andalucía is expected to achieve an output of 687,970 tons of biodiesel fuel in 2010, making it the top region in Spain for this type of energy. Valencia is currently the leader in biodiesel. There are 15 facilities in various stages of operation, construction and development in Andalucía.
Wettest December since 1950
The heavy rains in Andalucia have made it the wettest December since 1950, but it does mean that most of the region now has a supply of water, both for drinking and for agricultural purposes, for at least two years.
Domestic violence fatalities 2009
With one confirmation pending, a total of 13 people lost their lives in Andalucia during 2009 as a result of domestic violence, 5 more than during 2008. In only one case had there been a prior complaint for abuse and only one case involved a foreigner. Jaén and Cádiz were the only provinces where no such deaths occurred.
New Year weather
The current forecast is for a cloudy, wet, and in some cases snowy New Year with storms and high winds in some areas.
Twenty roads still closed in Andalucia
A total of twenty roads remain closed throughout Andalucia as a result of snow or heavy rain, ten of these being in Cádiz province.
