The National Committee for the Prevention of Smoking (CNPT) estimates that 600,000 have quit the habit since the anti-smoking laws were introduced almost one year ago. They also report that there has been a 10% drop in hospital admissions due to heart attacks and a 15% drop in cases of asthma amongst children.
FACUA has received over 800 complaints relating to anti-smoking law violations
The consumer organisation FACUA has so far received 860 complaints relating to the new, tougher anti-smoking laws and has initiated action against one bar in Sevilla.

Heavy fines for smokers who offend
Fines for infringement of the new anti-smoking laws range from €30 to €600 for offenders and up to €600,000 for the owners of properties who disobey the law.
