According to the Council it has been a pretty uneventful summer season on the beaches of the municipality as far as incidents are concerned, which is a good thing.
Fifteen beaches in Andalucia have Blue Flag withdrawn
Fifteen beaches in Andalucia have had their prestigious Blue Flags withdrawn due, in the main, to deficiencies in lifeguard services during the summer season.
Replacement of beach shower platforms
The Council has purchased a new tractor costing €67,760 to add to the fleet of vehicles used for maintaining the beaches in the municipality. Work is also under way to replace the beach shower platforms, starting with Burriana beach, the old wooden ones being replaced with prefabricated anti-slip units.
Environmental awareness campaigns on beaches
As is happening in a number of coastal municipalities at the moment, the Málaga Provincial Council is promoting environmental awareness campaigns on beaches, these being aimed at younger children in particular.
Two fatalities on Huelva beaches
Two people died today in separate incidents on the beaches of Huelva. In Punta Umbria, swimmers found the body of a man in his sixties who had suffered a heart attack. on Punta del Moral beach in Ayamonte, a 70 year-old man drowned despite the best efforts of local health personnel.

A good crowd on Torrecilla beach enjoying a gloriously sunny day. A few barbies on El Chucho beach then it’s canvas city on El Playazo beach, the smell of sardines wafting through the air – slowly, as there was hardly a breath of wind.
Q for Quality flags received
The Town Hall has received the three ‘Q’ for Quality flags for this year, these corresponding to Burriana and Torrecilla beaches, as usual, and for the first time, El Chucho beach.
Out and About May 1st 2013…
A glorious May Day holiday, although you can still see the odd bit of snow on several of the hills overlooking Nerja. Plenty of people around the Balcón de Europa, a fair few on the beaches and, despite being a public holiday, most of the shops in the centre were open, at least for half of the day.
Chiringuito owners denounce poor state of beaches
As the Easter holiday period rapidly approaches, chiringuito owners in Málaga have denounced the poor state of many of the beaches, noting 25 areas where sand needs replenishing or infrastructure needs repairing after the recent storms.
