Paving work is currently being carried out in calle Chaparil. Little disruption to traffic today and they do not appear to be doing anything to the trees as yet.

Calle Chaparil is still closed to through traffic between calle Antonio Millón and calle Jaén due to the project to replace the existing cork trees with palm trees and make parking easier, although no sign of anyone working today.

Work in calle Chaparil has resulted in the local bus service being diverted down prolongación Antonio Millón and the temporary moving of the bus stop from junction of calle Antonio Millón with calle Chaparil to the junction of calle Chaparil and prolongación Antonio Millón (next to the ceramics shop).
Green Party news
As the Council begins to rip out the trees in calle Chaparil as part of a project to make parking easier, the newly formed Nerja Green Party are not happy bunnies. Their latest press release, complete with photos, is reproduced here (unedited).
Fire in calle Chaparil
A fire yesterday afternoon in calle Chaparil left an apartment totally burned out. The second floor apartment caught fire just before 19:00.
Local protest
The Council decision to remove the existing (about 150) cork trees from calle Chaparil and replace some of them with palms has not met with everyone’s approval and, using a Facebook campaign amongst other means, a group of local people are protesting this decision.

APP Informatica is the latest to succumb to the current financial climate. First they moved premises, from one side of calle Chaparil to the other, and now they’ve gone.
