The EU Court of Justice has ruled that airlines will have to compensate passengers in the event of flight cancellations, even if due to mechanical problems with the plane. Compensation can, however, be refused if the problems are beyond the control of the airline.

The Andalucían Health Authority (SAS – Servicio Andaluz de Salud) has agreed to pay compensation of €119,415 to the family of a 59 year old man who died after being on the waiting list for an operation for 15 months.
