Guardia Civil officers in Fuengirola have arrested three people, all Spanish nationals, after catching them red-handed stealing copper cable and various appliances, including air conditioning units, from a Ministry of Public Works storage facility in the city.

Twenty people have so far been detained in an investigation into an international plot to steel cables, mostly copper, in Cádiz and neighbouring provinces. Raids on several industrial premises are being carried out in Jerez de la Frontera and further arrests are not being ruled out.

Thieves in Ronda have made off with about 125 metres of cabling from the street lighting in three areas: Murallas del carmen, urbanisation Arenal 2000 and La Pedania.
