The Valencian government has approved a decree relating to the restructuring of public companies which will see 3,000 employees being laid off, about 40% of the total workforce.
More cutbacks on the Madrid Metro
Metro Madrid has announced plans to reduce services on all lines of the network by 50 percent after 11pm. The company also announced earlier this year that it is considering bringing forward the shut-down of the metro to 12am from 2am four nights a week from Sunday to Wednesday.
No official New Year celebrations in Sierra de Yeguas
The Council in Sierra de Yeguas has reduced the Christmas lighting by 50% this year and will not be erecting a marquee in the Plaza de Andalucia or providing musical entertainment for the New Year celebrations. The savings as a result of this action, estimated at around €6,000, are allegedly going towards paying off municipal creditors.
Councils cutting back on Christmas lighting
Several municipalities along the Costa del Sol have already decided to cut back on Christmas lighting this year in order to help the municipal coffers, Nerja and Fuengirola being two, while Cártama has decided to have no special Christmas lighting at all, thus saving €6,000. Vélez-Málaga has even cancelled the traditional official New Year celebrations.
Economic crisis hits Guardia Civil
As the academic year closes at the Guardia Civil Academy in Baeza, Jaén, there have been a total of 2,072 new officers. However, the economic crisis is also set to hit the Guardia Civil with only 200 places being available next year.
