A man has been arrested in Andalucia for driving four kilometres on the wrong side of the highway. DGT crackdown on drink, drugs and driving during next busy period

The DGT will be drastically increasing the number of drugs and alcohol tests carried on drivers during the holiday period of August 14th and 15th as around 3.2 million people are expected to take to the roads. The exits roads from large cities and coastal areas are expected to be the busiest places.

Crackdown on driving under the influence of drink and drugs

Today sees the start of a DGT ‘zero tolerance’ crackdown on driving under the influence of drink or drugs, with random testing being carried out at all times of day and on all types of roads. The crackdown will continue until July 15th.

Mobile phones and driving

A total of nearly 17,000 vehicles were checked in Málaga province during the recent DGT crackdown on the use of mobile phones while driving, the campaign being carried out between March 5th and March 18th.

Road Safety Strategic Plan 2011-2020

As part of the Road Safety Strategic Plan 2011-2020, which the Government is expected to approve soon, a working committee is to be set up to discuss the possibility of allowing people under eighteen years to drive if accompanied by an adult holding a full licence.

‘Conductor Alternativo’ campaign in Vélez-Málaga

Delegations from the Social Action and Family, Youth and Local Police in  have launched an interesting new safety campaign aimed at the youth in the municipality, designated ‘conductor alternativo’ – alternative driver.

Motoring offences

During 2008, a total of 15,000 Andalucíans appeared before the courts charged with various motoring offences and 100 of these are currently in jail either as repeat offenders or for serious traffic crimes, some of which resulted in a fatality.

Málaga starts drug testing for motorists

The Local Police in Málaga have started testing motorists for drugs and intend to continue carrying out checks and different times of day, including weekends.
