The number of people actually in work, namely signed up with the Social Security system in Spain, fell by 184,031 (1.13%) in January to 16.173 million, the lowest figure since April 2002, according to figures released by the Government.
Signs of recovery
According to an announcement by the Councillor for Employment, Nuchi Moreno, the number of people affiliated to the Social Security system in Nerja rose by 368 people (7.5%) in 2013 when compared to 2012, figures being interpreted as a sign of successful job creation and economic recovery in the municipality.
Council has another go at the Junta de Andalucia
The Council has approved two motions relating to the employment policies of the regional government, asking them to meet their responsibilities from previous years and to implement an employment policy specifically for the province of Málaga.
Pessimism rules
The latest survey by the Centre for Sociological Research (CIS) shows that 60.9% of those unemployed see little or no chance of getting a job in the next twelve months and 29.2% view their chances of obtaining a job as ‘likely’ or ‘somewhat likely’.

A twin survey by the professional social network Viadeo on the labour market situation in Andalucia shows that 52% of Andalucians are seeking employment via social networks and that 64% of executives take into account the social profiles of prospective employees.

The Junta de Andalucia is allocating €2,598 euros to the Second Integrated Plan for Youth, to be known as Plan Gyga, to improve the opportunities for training and emancipation of young people in the region.

The Council is allocating €123,558.77 of provincial funding to the creation of employment and to help families in the municipality who are suffering as a result of the continuing economic crisis in Spain.

Workshops in Ronda
