The fishermen in Caleta de Vélez remained in port on Thursday in protest at the implementation of health regulations on how fish has to be presented at the market, the rules applying to both the buyers and sellers.
Gulf of Cádiz fishing fleets return to work
The fishing fleets in and around the Gulf of Cádiz return to work today after a two month and 15 day enforced rest period to protect the fishing grounds and allow fish stocks to recover.
Cádiz fishermen suffered a bad January
The fishing fleet out of Cádiz did not have a very good January at all, only managing to get out of port on three occasions due to the bad weather. The local fishermen’s brotherhoods consider the situation to be reaching a critical state for the industry in the area.
