Earlier this month the mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, put a temporary stop to the construction of a bridge across the A-7 highway which was to connect the village of Maro to the Nerja Caves, citing the lack of the necessary permission from the Department of Culture as the construction was taking place on protected land.
