The total number of foreclosures initiated in 2013 was down by 9.8% on the previous year but it was still a staggering 82,860.
Record number of foreclosures in 2012
According to a report by the General Council of the Judiciary, there have been over 400,000 foreclosures in Spain since 2007 and the dubious honour of top region for evictions goes to Andalucia (81,160), followed by Cataluña (79,.043) and the Comunidad Valenciana (77,435).
Record number of evictions in 2011
The Spanish Courts processed 58,241 eviction orders during 2011, a record high and a 22% increase over 2010.
