Illegals arrive off Granada coast

Guardia Civil and Marine Rescue have intercepted a boat carrying illegal immigrants off the coast of Granada. On board were 35 passengers, including one who had died en route. The surviving passengers were apparently in good health, despite having been drifting for some time.

Three robbers arrested

National Police officers from Almería and Granada have arrested three North Africans who are believed to have been responsible for 59 robberies with violence since November 2008. One of the group would apparently retain their chosen victim, usually elderly, in a stranglehold while the other two relieved him or her of valuables.

Bus strike continues in Granada

Workers from the Rober bus company in Granada have been marching through the streets as the sixth day of stoppages affected bus services between 06:00 and 11:00 this morning. Despite both sides in the dispute expressing a willingness to enter into dialogue, there is as yet no end in sight to the dispute.

Strike by bus drivers in Granada

Strike action by bus drivers in Granada has started with around 50% of the workforce answering the call for industrial action. The strike affects the urban bus network in Granada with a minimum service of 30% being provided. Further partial strikes, between the hours of 06:00 and 11:00, will begin on Monday and continue on alternate days until February 20th.

Sierra Nevada ski station hopes to reopen on Saturday

High winds, rain and dense fog caused the Sierra Nevada ski station to remain closed all day Friday. Winds were gusting up to 100 kph throughout the resort and general visibility was poor. The management of the resort, CETURSA, are expecting conditions to improve during Saturday and allow the station to reopen.

Athlete died from hyperthermia

An autopsy carried out on 33 year old Fidel Ramírez, the missing athlete whose body was found in the Rio Dílar on Sunday, has shown that he died from hyperthermia.
