26 arrests during Operation ‘Yunke’

The Guardia Civil have detained 26 people, 23 in Huelva and 3 in Málaga, and seized 5,650 kilos of drugs during the course of an operation codenamed ‘Yunke’.

Rail link cut after train derails

The train service between Jabugo (Huelva) and Zafra (Badajoz) had to be suspended after a train derailed due to rocks falling on the track. No-one was injured in the incident.

Three injured in fire

Three people were injured and a further six had to be evacuated from their homes as a result of a fire at an apartment block in Nerva, Huelva province.

New Mercado del Carmen in Huelva opens tomorrow

Today is the inauguration of the new Mercado del Carmen in Huelva, the old market having been’retired’ after 144 years of faithful service. The new market will be open to the public as from tomorrow, Tuesday February 9th.

Historic Huelva market closes

The old historic Mercado del Carmen in Huelva has closed after 144 years and is being replaced with a new €18 million construction not fifty metres from the old site.

Alleged arsonist acquitted

Emilio Perdigón, accused of starting fires in Huelva on July 24th 2004 in which two people lost their lives and 35,291 hectares of land were destroyed, has been acquitted by the Provincial Court in Huelva.

Today is the second and final court session in Huelva relating to the fire in Riotinto in which a couple lost their lives and over 35,000 hectares of land were destroyed. There is one accused in the case and the prosecution are seeking a jail term of between 26 and 28 years.
