785 illegal immigrants intercepted so far this year

So far this year, a total of 785 illegal immigrants in 34 boats have arrived off the coast of Andalucia, the most recent being on Thursday evening when a small craft carrying 15 passengers, one of them a minor, was intercepted about 7 miles south of Motril, Granada province.

Five small boats intercepted

Five small boats carrying illegal immigrants were intercepted off the Almeria coast on Thursday.

40 sub-Saharans intercepted off the Granada coast

Forty sub-Saharan immigrants, including two women, were intercepted on Tuesday about 35 miles south of Motril, Granada by the Marine Rescue ship ‘Salvamar Hamal’. All the passengers were said to be in good physical condition.

40 illegal immigrants intercepted south of Punta Sabinar, Almeria

A boat carrying 40 Moroccan immigrants, including 7 women and 2 children, was intercepted on Sunday about twenty miles south of Punta Sabinar, Almería. The authorities had received a call that a boat had set off from Tres Forcas, Morocco, and an air and sea search began for the boat.

37 illegal immigrants intercepted off the Granada coast

A boat carrying a total of 37 illegal immigrants, including two women and two minors, was intercepted just after midnight about one mile off the coast of Granada. All were in good health and are now being held in Motril for processing.

Boat owners arrested for ferrying illegal immigrants

National police officers in Almería have arrested two men, both Algerian nationals, on charges of organising and carrying out the ferrying of ten illegal immigrants from Algeria to Cabo de Gata in their boat.

One of the rescued pregnant immigrants loses her baby

One of the pregnant immigrants rescued from a small dinghy off the Granada coast on Sunday and admitted to the Hospital Santa Ana in Motril has lost her baby due to the strain of the journey. She remains hospitalised. The other pregnant woman from the boat is expected to give birth within hours.
