Three arrested in connection with Barbate boat wreck

Three of the survivors from the boat found on La Aceitera beach in the Zahora area of Barbate have been arrested and charged with eight counts of negligent homicide and crimes against the rights of foreign citizens.

Eighth body located

Divers searching for survivors from the boat found at La Aceitera beach in the Zahora area of Barbate have located another body, that of a minor. Fifteen survivors have also been found.

A total of eight people have now been detained as part of Operation Pranzo, an investigation into crimes against the rights and freedoms of foreigners.

Five boats intercepted near Cabo de Gata

No less than five boats were intercepted yesterday off Cabo de Gata, Almería, as a total of 68 North Africans attempted to illegally relocate to Spain. The passengers included three minors and one woman.

6 illegal immigrants rescued in the Straits of Gibraltar

Six sub-Saharan gentlefolk traveling in a plastic boat were intercepted and rescued by the Maritime Service in the Straits of Gibraltar. They were taken to Tarifa where, after being checked by the Red Cross, they are now in the capable hands of the Comisaría de Algeciras.

28 illegal immigrants intercepted

Two boats were intercepted yesterday south-east of Cabo de Gata, Almería, with a total of 28 illegal immigrants on board.

Patrol boat finds two bodies

A Guardia Civil patrol boat has found the bodies of a woman and a child believed to be from the dinghy which capsized on Thursday about 4 miles from the Moroccan coast as it made its way to Spain.
