A veritable mini-armada of boats have arrived off the coast of Almería carrying, in total, 116 North African immigrants of the illegal kind.

Merchants of misery get 18 years in jail

A Provincial Court in Almería has sentenced three Moroccans to a total of 18 years in prison for their part in bringing 41 illegal immigrants into Spain in November 2007. The illegal immigrants, who each paid €900 for the journey from Morocco, included thirty minors. They landed at Playa La Fabriquilla in Balerma (El Ejido) in November 2007.

Five illegal immigrants in a small rubber dinghy were intercepted on Tuesday afternoon after being spotted by a ship travelling through the Straits of Gibraltar.

16 illegal immigrants intercepted off Cabo de Gata

The Maritime Rescue Service has intercepted and rescued 17 North Africans immigrants about 16 miles from Cabo de Gata, Almería. The boat was first spotted during the afternoon by a merchant vessel from the Canary Islands. All the immigrants were adults and in apparent good health.

49 illegals intercepted off Almeria coast

A total of 49 illegal immigrants were intercepted last night, arriving off the Almeria coast in three boats. One of the boats was on the point of sinking when the Maritime Rescue services arrived on the scene.

16 illegal immigrants intercepted in the Bahía de Mazarrón

Guardia Civil officers have intercepted 16 Algerian nationals who arrived in two small boats in the Bahía de Mazarrón. There were 15 males and one female on board, all adults, and all in apparent good health. They are now in the custody of the National Police awaiting repatriation.
