Since becoming the world’s first Smurf Village on June 16th 2011, the small town of Júzcar in Málaga province, population 250, has certainly prospered. In the first ten days since the premier of the movie Smurfs 2, some 5,000 have visited this tiny village.
Júzcar and ‘Smurfs 2’
Júzcar, population 240 people, has benefited greatly from being the first ‘Smurf Village’ in the world, with around 185,000 people from all over the world visiting the village since it was chosen in 2011 for the promotion pof the film ‘The Smurfs 3D’. And the village will remain blue until the residents decide otherwise.
Still feeling blue

Forest fire under control
The forest fire which began in the Serrania de Ronda on Saturday was finally brought under control at 18:00 on Monday. The blaze has destroyed 750 hectares of chestnut, pine and scrub land in the municipalities of Pujerra, Benahavis, Jubrique and Júzcar.
Energy saving project in Júzcar
Málaga Provincial Council is investing €251,840 to renew the public lighting in the mountain village of Júzcar, with energy saving light bulbs being installed.
