Barcelona clinched their 19th league title last night without having to kick a ball as their only potential rivals, Real Madrid, lost 2-3 to Villarreal. Not that this could have escaped anyone’s attention with the traditional tooting of car horns late last night, early this morning!

A 3-0 drubbing by Valencia has virtually put paid to any title aspirations Real Madrid may have been harbouring. Valencia dominated the match and could easily have scored half a dozen goals. Juan Manuel Mata, David Silva and Ruben Baraja did get their names on the scoresheet, though.

Real Madrid are doing all they can to keep the pressure on Barcelona, this time winning 3-0 against Almería. Brazilian Marcelo opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and then the in-form Huntelaar – eight goals in his last six games – grabbed a pair to give Real a comfortable win.
