Continued internal conflict and opposition complaints of a lack of Local Police presence on the streets of Nerja during the summer are thought to have been the reason for the change, by decree, in ultimate responsibility for the force, this now in the hands of Councillor José Miguel García.
Modifications to departmental responsibilities
The mayor, José Alberto Armijo, has made a couple of minor departmental changes relating to the Local Police and New Technologies. Responsibility for the Local Police will pass from Inocencia Quintero to José Miguel García and responsibility for New Technologies will pass from Antonio Villasclaras to Gema García.

Local Police are carrying out their annual clampdown on street vendors and have confiscated a range of items including counterfeit sunglasses, bags, massage packs and clothing.
