Six injured in Madrid blast

Six people were slightly injured early this morning in an explosion at the Guardia Civil Youth College in Valdemoro, Madrid.

Metro strike in Madrid

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in the Madrid Community has decided to closed all the metro stations in the capital today as a result of a strike by rail workers.

Extra AVE trains between Málaga and Madrid

RENFE is adding two more AVE trains each day from now until Sunday between Málaga and Madrid due to the Corpus Christi holiday, a major celebration in Madrid. The two trains will carry an extra 620 passengers.

Fatality in Madrid half marathon

A 31 year old runner collapsed and died after crossing the finish line of the Madrid Half marathon this morning. Another two runners were hospitalised, one of them in a serious condition.

El Rafita is free again

‘El Rafita’, who as a minor was one of the accused in the kidnapping, rape and murder of Sandra Palo, is once again free after a judge ordered his release following a court appearance on charges of car theft.

Rafita in custody again

Rafael ‘Rafita’ Fernández García, a 21 year old who, as a minor, was convicted of the murder of a youth in Getafe, is once again in custody, this time for car theft.

Members of the ‘Latin Kings’ arrested in Madrid

Police in Madrid have arrested 54 alleged members of the ‘Latin Kings’ including the ‘Supreme Inca’, the ultimate leader of the ‘Sagradu Tribu América Spain’ (STAS) – Sacred Tribe of America Spain -, the name given to the Spanish branch of the organisation.

FITUR 2010

The FITUR tourism fair is underway in Madrid and continues until Sunday, with 11,000 businesses from 170 countries taking part.

Flight cancellations in Madrid

Snow, ice and fog caused the cancellation of 137 flights in and out of Madrid’s Barajas airport this morning and many other flights suffered long delays. There have been numerous complaints from passengers about a distinct lack of information from airport staff about cancellations and delays, the Guardia Civil having to intervene at one point to calm down angry travellers.
