Criticism over the placing of marker buoys
The marker buoys are expected to be placed along the Nerja coastline during the next few days but the Councillor for Beaches, Jonathan Méndez, is not happy about what he sees as a ‘delay’ and is critical of the management of the Mancomunidad (Association of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol-Axarquia), the body responsible for this service.
Debts threaten installation of marker buoys
The beaches in Vélez-Málaga, Algarrobo and Torrox could end up without the marker buoys this summer due to accumulated debts for this service between 2007 and 2009. Only two municipalities, Nerja and Rincón de la Victoria, are fully paid up and guaranteed to be provided with the service.

Marker buoys adorn the coastline for a reason, one of them being to isolate an area where bathers are safe from motorised craft. Swimmers can swim in safety, snorkellers can snorkel away without individual markers in the knowledge that they can surface without being confronted by a boat or jet ski.
