The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has described the environmental policy of the Junta de Andalucia with respect to Maro-Cerro Gordo as ‘truly irresponsible’ after the provincial Minister of Environment announced it would extend the protection afforded the area. So no building hotels.
Awareness campaign for Maro Cerro-Gordo
The Councillor for Beaches, Nieves Atencia, reports that environmental associations are participating in an awareness campaign organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment, the aim being to introduce people to the beaches of the Paraje Natural de Maro Cerro-Gordo and the beaches of Maro and the importance of conservation.
Council seeks clarification regarding Maro-Cerro Gordo
The Council has unanimously approved a motion urging the Junta de Andalucia to clarify ‘once and for all’ exactly what can and cannot be done as far as development is concerned in the Maro-Cerro Gordo Natural Area, a site heavily protected since 1989.
Maro-Cerro Gordo and PORN
It is now exactly three years since the end of the deadline for objections (of which there were 260) to the so-called Plan of Management of Natural Resources (PORN) covering the heavily protected Maro-Cerro Gordo area, but no regional approval has yet been received.
Guide to Maro-Cerro Gordo
The Council is hoping to produce a guide book to the Maro-Cerro Gordo natural park, the publication to cover everything from plants to beaches. The cost of the project has been estimated at €6,000 and the Council is trying to get a grant from the Ministry of Environment to cover the costs.
Nerja wants approval for PORN
The Nerja Council is to ask the Junta de Andalucía for definitive approval of the PORN (Plan de Ordenación de los Recursos Naturales) in relation to the Maro-Cerro Gordo natural park.
