A glorious May Day holiday, although you can still see the odd bit of snow on several of the hills overlooking Nerja. Plenty of people around the Balcón de Europa, a fair few on the beaches and, despite being a public holiday, most of the shops in the centre were open, at least for half of the day.
La Canoa Bar and Grill
The former Diamante Azul on avenida Mediterraneo has been renovated and is now La Canoa Bar and Grill. It is a medium-sized establishment with a reasonable and sunny street terrace.
III Photo Competition ‘Las Protegidas en Imágenes’
The third photo competition ‘Las Protegidas en Imágenes’ will open on May 6th for entries from both amateur and professional photographers, with prizes of €80, €50 and €30 for the best three works.

The III Equality Exhibition, organised by the association Todos Ciudadanos, opened today at the Sierra Almijara Institute.
Council to ask the Junta de Andalucia to carry out sanitation projects
The Council has a motion to once again request the Junta de Andalucia to invest some of the monies obtained through the imposition of the canon under the Andalucia Water Act, approved in 2010, in sanitation projects in Nerja.

The Department of Youth has organised a cartoon competition as part of the Nerja Crea+ 2013 programme.
Council wants improved signposting in the Natural Park
The Council has approved a motion requesting the Ministry of Environment of the Junta de Andalucia to formulate a plan to improve the signposting of existing tracks and trails within the Natural Park as well as creating new trails. The motion had the support of all political parties.
Diplomas for Civil Protection volunteers
The Councillor for Civil Protection, Inocencia Quintero, has been handing out diplomas to Civil Protection volunteers who attended a one day training course at the Municipal School of Public Safety in Málaga (ESPAM).
Success for Nerja in the indoor football finals
The youngsters from the Club Deportivo Fútbol Sala (indoor football) in Nerja won the Málaga Federation Cup at the weekend, beating Torroles 4-2 in the final. The event took place in the Guadaljaire Pavillion in Málaga. In the final of the junior category, Nerja lost out to Coineña by 7 goals to 5.
Fun day in Plaza Tutti Frutti
The Spring Party held in Plaza Tutti Frutti was a success, a lot of people turning out to listen to the music, dance, have a drink or three and a bite to eat.
