Laura Moreno Casanova has been declared the winner of the Poster Contest set up as part of the Nerja Create+ 2013 programme, taking home the first prize of €150. The theme of the contest was International Youth Day which will be celebrated in Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos on August 12th 2013.
Tapas at El Pulguilla
It is very difficult just to have one tapa at El Pulguilla in calle Cristo, Nerja, as they are always so rasty. My first was ‘bacalao’ (cod) and it was succulent, beautifully cooked and flavoured and covered with a garlicky sauce. The flavour of the sauce lingered, and I could still taste it over an hour later. Delightful.
Breakfast Catalana
After an early morning wander, breakfast at Cafeteria Nerja on calle San Miguel, Nerja, just before the junction with avenida Castilla Perez. I had a huge Catalana – toasted bread (half a barra in this case!!), olive oil, tomato and a humungus helping of serrano ham – and a coffee, total €3.00. Coffee is still just €1 by the way. …
Calle El Barrio April 17th 2013…
Work continues on the pedestrianisation of calle El Barrio, although it seems that activity only takes place in the mornings at the moment. The works have not been too disruptive so far, with pedestrian access still possible.
Start of work to replace railings at Torrecilla beach
The old broken and rusty railings at Torrecilla beach have been removed and a start has already been made on constructing the retaining wall which will house the new stainless steel guardrail.
Youth Agenda 2013
The Councillor for Youth, Sandra Jimena, has presented the Youth Agenda 2013 which provides information on workshops, competitions, youth activities throughout the year as well as details about such items as the European Youth Card and the International Student Card (ICS). Some of the activities and competitions have, of course, already begun.
Joaquín Herrera library reopens
The library at the Joaquín Herrera college in calle Chaparil has reopened, students and teachers attending an inauguration ceremony on Tuesday.
Taller de la Amistad needs to extend existing facilities
The charitable organisation Taller de la Amistad has to add another floor, covering around 250 square metres, to their existing building in order to accommodate the child care tasks currently being carried out in the Giner de los Rios centre in calle Diputación. This is a requirement of the Junta de Andalucia and must be completed by 2014.
Second section of Torrecilla beach to get new railings
Work is starting to replace the dilapidated, and in some parts, missing railings down by Torrecilla beach at Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos. As with the first section, the new railings will be stainless steel to prevent corrosion and will be erected on top of a retaining wall. More containers for used clothing
The Council has approved an agreement with the Organización Social de Acción Humanitaria, OSAH, for the supply and maintenance of five containers for used clothing, thus swiftly complying with the resolution of January 20th 2009 by the Secretary of State for Climate Change which stipulates that there must be a minimum of one container per 3,000 inhabitants.
