Out and About February 16th 2014…

Very changeable weather at the moment but Sunday was quite warm and there were quite a few people out and about, quite a few in shorts and t-shirts.

Another court victory for Nerja

The Superior Court of Justice in Andalucia (TSJA) has reportedly ruled in favour of Nerja Council and it does not have to return the €15 million paid by Med Group for land it bought for the purpose of building a golf course, hotel and residential homes.

Activities for children during Semana Blanca

The Semana Blanca mid-term break is coming up at the end of this month and a number of events and activities have been arranged for the younger ones. All the activities will take place at the Nerja Cultural Centre, calle Granada 45.

Tapas at Taberna Torero

Down a flight of stairs near the bus stop at the junction of calle Chaparil and calle Antonio Millón in Nerja is a lovely little tapas bar called Taberna Torero.

Increased prize fund for Carnival 2014

The number and value of prizes at this year’s Carnival have been increased, a measure coinciding with the thirtieth anniversary of the event.

Out and About February 12th 2014…

Work continues on the long project to build the underground car park at Burriana beach. Underground car parks are not renowned for being financially viable projects in any municipality, but they do of course bring valuable municipal income through the actual construction fees and licences.

La Loca Carmela closes plus a round-up of closures

La Loca Carmela (formerly Bar Alameda)in calle Jaén, Nerja, has closed after a very short existence. A quick recap on some of the bars and restaurants which have disappeared during the past six months or so in case any are on your list of former favourites.

Illegal hawker denounced

Many people will have seen, and certainly many more heard, a white van touring the streets of Nerja, megaphone blaring to announce the sale of sacks of potatoes at very economical prices. However, this was not appreciated by the Local Police.

La Tertulia

The former El Tapeito in calle Chaparil, Nerja, is now La Tertulia. It still has the barrels outside for a street terrace but the inside has been totally renovated.
