Work on the Balcon de Europa continues, slowly but surely. The surface is gradually becoming usable again and it shouldn’t be too long before this stretch is completed. The cafes along this part of calle Carmen can at least open again and try to make up some of the income lost during the past couple of months.
Happy New Year – Feliz Año Nuevo
The rains held off, the sky was pretty clear and it was a Blue Moon for the New Year celebrations on the Balcón de Europa. A bit windy, but at least it was dry. Despite the roadworks in the area, the turnout seemed very good this year with revellers all the way down the promenade.
A Welcome Break
Today was a welcome break from the almost incessant rain, the sky clearing and the sun putting its hat on. Plenty of people emerged from the warmth and comfort of their homes to make the most of it, all hoping it will continue until the New Year celebrations, damp fireworks being somewhat overrated. The new promenade at El Chucho is …
A sunny day…
A brief respite from the rain today, sunny skies, but it is apparently unlikely to last beyond this evening. All the building projects have been at a standstill for the past week or so, a combination of holidays and the bad weather. Calle Jaén wasn’t finished by Christmas -not that anyone ever thought it would be – but completion is …
Deep and cold
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) has been carrying out a study on biodiversity in the Southern Ocean and has released a set of pictures of marine life in the area. The images were taken in the Bellingshausen Sea, West Antarctica, and feature such marine creatures as ice fish, sea pigs, basket stars, rare rays, octopuses and other magnificent specimens. A …
Balcón de Europa and Plaza Cavana
The cafe Mediterraneo on calle Carmen managed to open again on Saturday, even having a terrace as there wasn’t much building going on. Several of the businesses in the square behind the Balcón de Europa have opened up again.
Torrox building works delays
Torrox Council has been forced to ask the Ministry of Public Administration for an extension to two building projects under the Primer Plan Estatal de Inversión Local or ‘Plan Zapatero’ as it is more often known, these being the renovation of Plaza de la Constitución and improvements to the promenade at Ferrara Playa.
Calle Carabeo December 15th
The work in calle Carabeo plods slowly along, no sign of any activity when I popped down there this morning. It is a huge trench at one end with water, residual or otherwise, in the bottom. There are also excavations being carried out right next door to the Hotel Carabeo 34, part of a different building project, which could be …
Auto graveyard…
Quite a few dead cars down on the Rio Chillar riverbed at the moment.
Health Centre update
Work on the area around the proposed new Health Centre is progressing, the new roundabout beginning to look quite…round. A long way to go, though, before work on the actual centre can begin. A whole new street is to be built as well as all the infrastructure.
