This week will see 1,500 Poinsettias around town, most notably on the Balcón de Europa, in calle Pintada and on major roundabouts. The Councillor for Parks and Gardens has once again requested that people just observe the plants in calle Pintada and not remove, damage or vandalise them as has occurred for the past few years.
Theft of festive plants becoming a habit
The disappearance of the festive poinsettias in Vélez-Málaga is becoming a habit, with over 300 plants having been stolen from parks, gardens and other sites. Last year the Council replaced around 800 stolen plants, but this year there will be no replacements as they will more than likely just get nicked again.
Festive blooms
Many of the plant holders in Nerja have been adorned with seasonal poinsettias plants, as have the wall pots on the archway on the Balcón de Europa, and the Council is asking people to refrain from damaging them or digging them up to take home, something which has been happening regularly in recent years.
