The provinces of Sevilla, Huelva, Málaga, Cádiz, Granada and Almería are on ‘yellow alert’ for possible heavy rains and storms. The alert will remain in effect until 16:00 on Sunday.
Heavy rains forecast for Mediterranean area
Heavy and persistent rains, high winds and stormy seas are currently being predicted for the Mediterranean area with as much as 200 litres per square metre forecast in some areas.
Heavy rains cause much flooding
The heavy rains of Saturday morning left many garages and patios flooded in Málaga province, particularly along the western Costa del Sol. In Sevilla, forty litres of water per square metre fell in less than an hour. On the A-49 near Camas, the rains caused a lorry to topple from a bridge. Fortunately, the driver escaped unhurt.
YELLOW ALERT FOR RAIN
There is a yellow alert for rain in Málaga, the Costa del Sol, Axarquia, Ronda and the Guadalhorce Valley. Around 15 litres of rain per square metre can be expected. Flooding has already occurred this morning in Esrepona and Marbella.
