Spanish 1-2-3 in Brno

Championship leader Marc Marquez became the first rider to win five races in his debut MotoGP season with victory at Brno in the Czech Republic. The 20-year-old Spaniard took his fourth win in a row with fellow Spaniards Dani Pedrosa second and reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo in third place.

Good start by Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao and Villareal share top spot after Saturday’s round of La Liga matches. Athletic were 2-0 winners over Osasuna through an own goal from Arribas and a proper goal by de Marcos.

Barcelona 7-0 Levante

Barcelona squeezed past Levante 7-0 to possibly set the standard for the season, although Levante didn’t really put up much of a fight. Messi and Pedro both bagged a pair and Sanchez, Alves and Xavi grabbed one apiece.

First matches of the new season

Real Sociedad got the new La Liga season under way on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Getafe, Carolos Vela and Seferovic the scorers with one goal coming in each half.

Froome triumphant in the Tour de France

After 3,404 kilometres of pedalling, Britain’s Chris Froome has won the 100th edition of the Tour de France, finishing over four minutes ahead of his nearest rival, Colombian Nairo Quintana, with Spain’s Joaquim Rodriguez in third.

Marquez victorious in Germany

With Pedrosa and Lorenzo sidelined by injuries after crashes, Marc Marquez moved top of the world championship standings with victory at the German Grand Prix. Britain’s Cal Crutchlow finished second and Valentino Rossi was third.

IV International Handball Tournament results

The IV International Handball Tournament held at the Covered Pavillion at the weekend was won by Equipo Banaguer Team from Córdoba. There were 115 players competing in the tournament. The team from Nerja finished in third place.

Barcelona reach 100 points for the season

José Mourinho’s final match in charge of Real Madrid ended in a 4-2 victory over Osasuna. No trophies this season, but he does at least bow out with a win.
