Atlético Madrid look pretty secure in third place in La Liga, a good job as they could only draw 0-0 in their local derby against Getafe on Sunday. Valencia are fifth and only two points behind Real Sociedad after a 2-1 win against Valladolid.
Lorenzo wins opening race in Qatar
Defending champion Jorge Lorenzo led from start to finish in the first race of the new MotoGP season in Qatar on Sunday evening. All eyes, however, were soon on Valentino Rossi who, having started fifth and at one stage was seventh after making a mistake, charged through the field to finish second.
Barcelona 5-0 Mallorca
Barcelona maintain their comfortable thirteen point lead at the top of La Liga after a 5-0 win against Mallorca, Fabregas scoring a hat-trick and Alexis getting two goals. There were no less than 28 goals in the five matches played on Saturday.
Real Sociedad 4-2 Málaga
Real Sociedad look like they are beginning to take a firm grip on fourth place in La Liga after a 4-2 win over Málaga on Saturday.
Málaga 0-0 Borussia Dortmund
Plenty of chances for both sides but the match between Málaga and Borussia Dortmund ended 0-0, meaning Málaga are still in with a serious chance of progressing if they can up their game for the second leg in Germany. Meanwhile, goals from Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuaín gave Real Madrid a fairly comfortable first leg win over Turkish side Galatasaray.
PSG 2-2 Barcelona
An entertaining quarter-final first leg match between PSG and Barcelona ended in a 2-2 draw, giving the Catalans an edge for the second leg.
Atlético Madrid 1-1 Valencia
Atlético Madrid could have regained second place in La Liga with a win while their opponents Valencia could have moved back above fifth placed Málaga, but their match on Sunday ended in a 1-1 draw. Both goals came in the first six minutes, Jonas scoring for Valencia, Falcao equalising for Atlético.
Back to business in La Liga
Málaga are back up to fifth in La Liga following a 1-3 win at Rayo Vallecano, although they could slip down again if Valencia beat Atlético Madrid on Sunday. Weligton, Baptista and Pedro Morales were on target for the Blue and Whites, Piti converting a penalty for Rayo.
Barcelona 3-1 Rayo Vallecano
Barcelona remain 13 points clear at the top of La Liga after a 3-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. David Villa opened the scoring and Lionel Messi added two more before Tamudo grabbed a consolation goal for the visitors.
Málaga CF 0-2 RCD Espanyol
Málaga CF drop to sixth place in La Liga after a 0-2 loss to RCD Espanyol at La Rosaleda. The Blue and Whites enjoyed most of the possession but, unlike Espanyol, failed to find the net and were punished with second half goals by Colotto and Sergio Garcia.
