Top two struggle but emerge victorious

Wins for the top two in La Liga but far from convincing performances, Real coming from behind against struggling Sporting Gijón and Barcelona scraping past Levante thanks to an extremely dodgy penalty decision.

Villarreal 2-1 Málaga

Málaga took the lead against Villarreal in the 65th minute thanks to Cazorla but a penalty converted by Senna and 90th minute strike by Peréz saw the home side claim victory. That means Málaga remain in fourth place, two points behind Valencia and two points ahead of Levante.

Atlético Madrid 1-4 Real Madrid

A hard-fought contest between Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid and it wasn’t until midway through the second half that Real took control, a hat-trick from Ronaldo helping them on their way to a 1-4 victory.

Barcelona 4-0 Getafe

Barcelona have moved to within one point of Real madrid with a 4-0 victory over Getafe, the goals coming from Sanchez(2), Pedro and, inevitably, one Lionel Messi. Real Madrid have a potentially tough match against Atlético Madrid on Wednesday evening.

Real Zaragoza 1-4 Barcelona

Barcelona have moved at least temporarily to within three points of Real Madrid after a 4-1 victory over Zaragoza, Messi netting two, one from the penalty spot, to achieve sixty goals for the season so far in all competitions.

Real Madrid 5-2 Apoel Nicosia

A fairly comfortable trip into the semi-finals of the Champions League for Real Madrid with a 5-2 win on the night, 8-2 on aggregate against Apoel Nicosia.

Sevilla 3-1 Mallorca

Sevilla are now only just outside the top six after a 3-1 win over Mallorca on Monday night, all the goals coming in the second half. Negredo, Manu del Moral and Jesús Navas were on target for the home side, Hemed scoring the only goal for the islanders.

Valencia 1-1 Levante

Both Valencia and Levante failed to capitalise on Málaga’s defeat on Saturday as they drew 1-1. Valencia would have been looking to put a bit of daylight between themselves and the Blue and Whites and Levante would have been looking to retake fourth place.

Barcelona win, Málaga don’t

Málaga’s assault on third place in La Liga suffered a setback on Saturday evening as they lost 0-2 to Real Betis, the goals scored by Castro and Dorado.

Osasuna 1-5 Real Madrid

Two for Ronaldo, two from Higuaín and a stunner from Benzema gave Real Madrid the three points in their match against Osasuna, the final score 1-5. Nino was the scorer for Osasuna.
