Madrid win, Villarreal don’t

Real Madrid look almost certain to proceed to the next round of the Champions League after a 4-0 victory over Olympique Lyon with goals from Benzema, Khedira, Lloris (og) and Alonso. That makes it three wins out of three.

Levante 3-0 Málaga

Oh dear. Málaga travelled to Levante and came back empty-handed, losing 3-0 to goals by Barkeru, Juanlu and Koné, all scored in the first half. As a result, Málaga slip to fifth place and Levante move up to second behind Barcelona.

Comfortable wins for Real and Barcelona

After the early weekend matches it’s a more familiar scene at the top of La Liga with Barcelona and Real Madrid occupying the first two places after both teams had fairly comfortable wins.

CD Nerja 2-0 Ciudad de Vicar

A 2-0 win for CD Nerja against visiting Ciudad de Vicarsees the lads move up to sixth in the Third Division Group 9, five points adrift of the leaders Loja who secured a 5-0 victory over Alhaurin de la Torre.

Barcelona back on top of La Liga

Barcelona defeated Sporting Gijón 0-1 on Sunday evening to take over at the top of La Liga after had earlier Levante briefly deposed Málaga. Adriano scored the only goal of the match early in the first half.

Pedrosa wins in Japan

Dani Pedrosa claimed his third victory of the season at the Japanese MotoGP, taking advantage of a spill by Casey Stoner to come home first ahead of fellow countryman and reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo.

Champions League 28/9/11

Barcelona knocked in five without reply against BATE Borisov. A Volodko own goal after 19 minutes started things rolling for Barcelona and then Pedro, Messi added two and David Villa finished the job.

Getafe 1-0 Betis

Real Betis failed to make it five in a row as they lost 1-0 to Getafe on Monday evening, Castro getting the only goal of the match, but they still hold on to top spot in La Liga.

Zaragoza 0-0 Málaga

A poor display from the Blue and Whites on Sunday night and the chance was lost to go top of La Liga, if only for a day. Instead, a 0-0 draw with Zaragoza leaves them in sixth spot, level on points with fifth placed Real Madrid.
