95 kilometre race through the valley

Over 350 athletes have registered to take part in the First Grand Tour of the Genal Valley, a 95 kilometre race over three days which will take in all fifteen municipalities of the Serrania de Ronda.

A police operation which began on September 6th has so far resulted in eight arrests in the Serrania de Ronda and the Campo de Gibraltar and the seizure of 800 kilos of cocaine, a yacht, a catamaran, a gun, cash and other items.

Rooftop drug plantation

Two people, aged 33 and 60 years, have been arrested and charged with crimes against public health after 28 kilos of marijuana plants were found growing on their roof in the Las Peñas district of Ronda. The plants were hidden under a green canopy.

Four Civil War mass graves identified in Ronda

Preliminary test excavations conducted by the Association of Historical Memory at a cemetery in Ronda has identified four mass graves and the remains of ten people, although it is thought that the pits could contain as many as 3,000 bodies.

White elephant to be renovated at a cost of €300,000

Ronda Council is finally going to do something about the so far unused building originally intended as an Interpretation Centre for Furniture of Ronda, although it will need renovating as it has been deteriorating since it was built in 2006 at a cost of €1.2 million.

New municipal ordinance to combat noise pollution

Ronda Council has launched a new municipal ordinance to regulate coexistence and protect public spaces and one of the provisions contained therein will allow people aged between 14 years and 29 years the possibility to perform community service rather than pay fines.

Cleaning and maintenance contract for the green areas of the town

Ronda Council has awarded the contract for the cleaning and maintenance of most of its green areas to a special employment centre, the Centro Especial de Empleo Accesibilidad Comarcal, and will run for one year and involve four companies, three of them from Ronda.

Proposal to name Antonio Garrido as ‘Hijo Predilecto’

A committee comprising family and friends of the author, historian and essayist Antonio Garrido are petitioning Ronda Council to name him ‘Hijo Predilecto’ (Favourite Son) of the town for his contributions in the field of culture.
