The Christmas strike by rubbish collectors in Málaga has ended but around 1,500 tons of waste still litter the streets and it will take several days to clear.
Málaga could suffer strike over Easter
Málaga looks like becoming the latest in a long list of towns and cities to suffer a strike by rubbish collectors after workers at the joint venture company Limasa voted to begin indefinite strike action as from 06:00 on March 22nd, the first day of Easter.
Rubbish mounts up in El Coronil
Around 40 tons of rubbish has accumulated on the streets of El Coronil, Sevila, during fifteen days of strike action by the rubbish collection service. El Coronil has a population of around 5,000 people.
Mayor of Granada considering requesting military intervention
The strike by cleaning workers in Granada is now in its tenth day with no sign of an agreement between the unions and the municipal cleaning company Inagra. The Mayor of Granada, José Torres Hurtado, has asked the two parties to reach an agreement or he will consider requesting the military to intervene to clear the streets of rubbish.
Attempt to move some of the rubbish in Jerez
Several trucks from the public company TRAGSA, a subsidiary of the State Industrial Holdings Company, have been collecting some of the rubbish that has accumulated in Jerez as a result of the strike by employees of Urbaser. The trucks were accompanied and protected by vans of the National Police.
