The metro Line 1 in Sevilla is due to become operational on December 20th 2008, although four of the stations will not actually be ready for use. The stations Puerta de Jerez, Montequinto, Europa and Olivar de Quinto are expected to become fully functional during the first quarter of 2009.
Heavy rains cause much flooding
The heavy rains of Saturday morning left many garages and patios flooded in Málaga province, particularly along the western Costa del Sol. In Sevilla, forty litres of water per square metre fell in less than an hour. On the A-49 near Camas, the rains caused a lorry to topple from a bridge. Fortunately, the driver escaped unhurt.
Car plunges into river after accident
A 16 year old girl is in hospital in Sevilla after being knocked down by a car which then plunged into the river Guadalquivir.
Industrial fatality in Sevilla
A 33 year old workman died on Wednesday evening after falling several metres on a site in calle Emilio Lemos, Sevilla. The Emergency Services were unable to do anything to save the man’s life.

Four people have so far been arrested in Sevilla in connection with ‘marriages of convenience’ designed to facilitate illegal immigrantion. Amongst those detained are two Dutch nationals who travelled to Sevilla to marry two Nigerians who were in the country illegally.
Body found in Río Guadalquivir
The corpse of a man aged about 30 years was discovered yesterday in the Río Guadalquivir in Sevilla, roughly level with the RTVE building. The body was removed from the river by local firemen. Neither the identity of the man nor the cause of death is known at this time.
Police arrest ex-wife of murdered BBVA bank manager
The Guardia Civil has arrested the ex-wife of the BBVA bank manager found dead at his chalet in Bollullos de la Mitación, Sevilla, last June.
Cocaine smugglers arrested
