More volcanic ash causes airport closures
Fresh activity from the volcano in Iceland has caused the closure this morning of 15 airports in Spain: Bilbao, San Sebastian, Vitoria, Zaragoza, Pamplona, La Rioja, Santiago, La Coruna, Vigo, Asturias, Santander, Leon, Valladolid, Burgos and Salamanca.
New Abortion Law
After numerous rejections and amendments, the new Law on Sexual Reproduction, Reproduction and Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy – otherwise known as the Abortion Law – is making its final passage through parliament and will come into effect four months after publication in the Official Gazette.
Reform of Anti-Tobacco Law delayed
The Minister of Health, Trinidad Jiménez, has announced that although the Anti-Tobacco Law will be reformed this year to prohibit smoking in all enclosed public places, it is unlikely to occur until the second half of 2010.
CPI down in January
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell by 1% in January as a result of the sales but the interannual rate increased by two-tenths in December 2009 to stand at 1%. The core inflation rate, which excludes food and energy prices, fell by 1.6% and the interannual rate is now 0.1%.
