Televised political debate

The political campaign coordinators of the PSOE and PP have agreed to the holding of a single ‘face to face’ televised political debate between the two prospective leaders, Mariano Rajoy (PP) and Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba (PSOE), and this will take place on November 7th, thirteen days before the election.

Four Spanish F-18’s returning home

The Libyan Rebel Air Force, instrumental in toppling the regime of Colonel Muammar Gadhafi, will have four less planes as from Saturday after the Spanish Minister of Defence, Carme Chacón, announced the withdrawal of four Spanish F-18’s from missions within Libya.

Spain 3-1 Scotland

Spain produced a dominant display to beat Scotland 3-1 in the last of the Euro qualifiers, although they were already safely through to the finals.

Italian and Spanish debt downgraded

Italian and Spanish government debt have both been downgraded by the Fitch credit rating agency. Fitch cut Italy’s rating from AA- to A+. Fellow agency Moody’s carried out downgrades earlier this week.

Evictions at new record high

Eviction processes through the courts in Spain reached a new record high in the second quarter of 2011, up 21.2% on the same period last year to 16,404.

Unemployment rises by 2,57% in September

The number of unemployed registered at the offices of National Employment Institute (INEM) in Andalucia rose by 23,592 during the month of September 2011, representing an increase of 2.57%t over the previous month and an increase of 5.06% over September 2010.

Checking the electoral register

A total of 35,776,615 people are eligible to vote in the general elections on November and the electoral roll can be consulted between October 3rd and 10th for checking that details are correct.

Car registrations down again in September

Registrations of passenger cars in September fell by 1.3% compared to the same month last year according to the Automobile Manufacturers Association (Anfac) and Sellers Association (Ganvam).

Weather outlook

The first Monday in October should be a case of clear skies and sun in most of Spain with twenty-one provinces expected to have temperatures of 30 degrees or more. A few exceptions, though.
