Fourteen fatalities on the roads in Spain at the weekend

Fourteen people died on the roads in Spain over the weekend in twelve fatal accidents. A further four people were seriously injured. The most serious accident occurred in Marchena, Sevilla, where a couple and their one year old child died in a collision with a lorry.

Summer road deaths

A total of 321 people died on the roads in Spain during July and August, 41 fewer than in the same period in 2010 and the lowest number since 1962.

Sevilla 2-1 Málaga

The first actual day of the new La Liga season after the strike by players and Málaga CF travelled to Sevilla, only to return empty handed after losing 2-1.

Nerja 2-0 El Palo

It is now two from two for CD Nerja in the Third Division Group 9, this time a 2-0 win against El Palo. Four teams are on six points: UD Marbella, Loja CD, CD Nerja and Unión Estepona.

Plans for a constitutional borrowing limit

The government and opposition have agreed to pass a constitutional limit on public sector borrowing as parliament discussed further austerity measures designed to cut the deficit to 6% of economic output this year, compared to 9.2% in 2010.

Government to temporarily reduce IVA on new homes

Alternatives to cancelled Madrid-Lisbon AVE rail link being discussed

The Portuguese Minister of Public Works, Alvaro Santos Pereira, is meeting with his Spanish counterpart, José Blanco, to discuss the cancelled AVE high-speed train link project between Lisbon and Madrid and to propose alternative rail link possibilities between the two countries.

Spain 1-2 Italy

Spain lost 1-2 to Italy in a friendly international on Wednesday night. Montolivo opened the scoring after fifteen minutes but Spain were back on level terms just before the break when Xabi Alonso scored from the penalty spot after Llorente was impeded in the area. However, Aquilani sealed victory for Italy with just six minutes remaining.

House sales down in June

The sale of homes fell again in June for the fourth consecutive month with 28,612 transactions registered, a decrease of 22.9% compared to same month in 2010 and 7.6% down on the May figures.
