The 7,000 pupils affected by a strike in La Linea will be returning to their classrooms this morning after an agreement was reached between the municipal authorities and the trades unions.
Strike hits schools in La Línea de la Concepción
No school today for pupils in La Línea de la Concepción as security cannot be guaranteed due to a strike by municipal employees. The industrial action is the result of the non-payment of wages by the municipal authority.
Strike is over, but it was costly
It is estimated that the wildcat strike by air traffic controllers, a brilliant way to help an ailing and crippled economy with over four million unemployed, will cost the Spanish tourist industry around €250 million.
Spain declares ‘state of alert’
For the first time in it’s democratic history, the government of Spain has declared a ‘state of alert’ following the action of air traffic controllers and the subsequent authorised takeover of the airports by the military. Under the ‘state of alert’, workers refusing to obey an order to return to work face charges under the Penal Code.

Iberia cancels all flights for Saturday
The airline Iberia has cancelled all flights for Saturday December 4th as a result of the wildcat strike by air traffic controllers and advise passengers not to turn up at airports. They are hoping to resume flights on Sunday.
Rubbish beginning to pile up in Jaén
A go-slow by waste removal operatives in Jaén for the past couple of days is causing rubbish to pile up in certain areas, particularly the old part of town.
French strike causes flight cancellations
A dozen flights in an and out of Andalucia and a total of forty-eight flights nationwaide have had to be cancelled as a result of industrial action in France.
El Ejido strike already causing problems
The industrial action by municipal employees of ELSUR in El Ejido, which began yesterday, has already caused areas of the town to be without street lighting and shortages of drinking water.
Locked out
Only one incident has so far been reported in Nerja on ‘strike day’, presumably related to the industrial action, and that was early on Wednesday morning when municipal employees turning up for work discovered that the five doors to the Town Hall had been glued shut.
