Clean-up begins in Jerez

After 22 days the strike by employees of the cleaning company Urbaser in Jerez de la Frontera is over and all efforts are now concentrated on clearing the streets of some 3,000 tons of accumulated garbage. The clean-up is expected to take several days.

Jerez strike could end today

The workers’ council has agrred adeal with the management of Urbaser, the cleaning concessionaire in Jerez de la Frontera which, after approval by the employees later today, will see an end to the strike and the rubbish cleared from the streets of the city tonight.

More burning bins in Jerez

It was another night of rubbish containers being set on fire in Jerez de la Frontera, particularly in the southern part of the city, as the strike by the employees of Urbaser continues.

Workers at Rober, the transport concessionaire in Granada, have been carrying out strike action this morning from 06:00 to 09:00 in protest at possible job losses and a reduction in purchasing power. Minimum service levels were in operation.

Strike talks in Jerez break down

Members of the workers’ committee of Urbaser, the municipal cleaning company in Jerez  de la Frontera, walked out of a meeting with management after fifteen minutes, accusing them of provocation and not bringing anything to the negotiating table.

The Fire Brigade in Jerez was called out to 30 fires in rubbish containers throughout the city last night as the strike by Urbaser employees continues. In the Mopu district, residents threw stones at the Fire Brigade to try and stop them putting out the fires.
