El Velero, at the junction of calle Pintada and avenida de Pescia at the top end of Nerja, is a lovely little tapas bar. The ‘Pinchito de pescado’ (Fish on a stick) consisted of a prawn (one of the best I have tasted), pepper, onion and a chunk of fish.
Tapas at El Barrio
Onward and upward to Bar El Barrio in….yes, calle El Barrio, Nerja, and a bumper bundle of tapas. It is a relatively small number of tapas on offer in this bar but they are always very good quality.
Tapas at La Taberna
La Taberna on calle Cristo is definitely in my Top Ten tapas bars in Nerja, although compiling any such list is not easy given the huge number of great places. La Taberna has a large selection and wide variety of meat, fish and salad tapas on offer.
Tapas at Meson de Julio
I like to see the hams hanging in the bars and these are on display in Meson de Julio in calle Cristo, Nerja, a very good tapas bar and restaurant. As a tapa I decided to try the paella as it looked rather appetising.

A trip to Sevillano on calle Chaparil, Nerja, is always a pleasure. The choice of tapas is outstanding, both fish and meat dishes, the service is always good and the portions are large.

Tapas at Chispa’s
There may have been the occasional decor change, but nothing really changes at Chispa’s, it’s still a very friendly, vibrant and very Spanish tapas bar serving, above all, some great fish tapas. Beer and a tapa is €1.30.
Tapas at La Marina
Finding a space at the (large) bar in La Marina in Plaza La Marina on Saturday lunchtime was not easy, but where there is a will there’s a way, and I eventually managed to squeeze in next to a narrow ledge occupied by a vase of plastic flowers. The flowers just had to go.
Tapas at El Pulguilla
El Pulguilla on calle Cristo is undoubtedly up there amongst the best tapas bars in Nerja. Spacious, vibrant, good service, wide range of delicious tapas and it is even air conditioned. On this occasion I opted for some ‘bacalao’, usually translated as ‘cod’.

The recently reopened Meson Cache on calle Málaga is attracting a good lunchtime crowd, offering some nice tapas and a menu del dia.
