A meeting is going on this morning, Saturday, involving Málaga Council, the Junta de Andalucia and representatives of Málaga’s taxi drivers in an effort to avert the strike planned for the middle of Easter Week.

Council supports local taxi drivers
Torrox Council, like its neighbour Nerja, has approved a motion in support of local taxi drivers in their attempts to continue picking up and dropping off passengers at Málaga airport. The Málaga taxi collective wants a closed shop as far as Málaga airport is concerned and are pushing for a change in the regional laws to achieve this.
Combating intrusion into the taxi industry
The Councillor for Traffic, Inocencia Quintera, has been attending a meeting in Torremolinos with representatives of other municipalities on the Costa del Sol to discuss intrusion into the taxi industry and ways to combat the situation.
New rules for taxis come into effect today
Today sees the introduction of the new regulations relating to licensed taxis in Andalucia, of which there are around 10,000.
Mijas taxis
Taxis in Mijas are now sporting the municipal motto on their vehicles, namely ‘Vive Mijas’. Taxi fares are not expected to be affected by this move.
Increase in ‘pirate’ taxi operators in Mijas
Professional taxi drivers in Mijas are none too happy at the increase in the number of ‘pirate’ operators in the area. Cut-price private operators, out to make a bit of extra cash, are nothing new and can be found almost everywhere, but the current economic crisis is tempting many more to ferry people to and from the airport.
Nerja has two more taxis
Nerja has two more taxis after the Council approved the granting of an additional two licences. One of the taxis is specially adapted for the carrying of passengers with physical disabilities and has, amongst other things, a large rear door suitable for wheelchair access. Nerja now has a total of 31 municipally licensed taxis.
More taxis for Nerja
Nerja Council has approved an amendment to the municipal ordinances relating to private taxis which will mean extra licenses will be granted.
