The sand lorries have returned to Torrox Costa once more to dump thousands of kilos onto Ferrara Playa, badly damaged, as usual, by storms.
Department of Coasts defends its beach policy
In response to criticism relating to the recent replenishment of sand on Ferrara Playa beach in Torrox Costa and its almost immediate disappearance, the Department of Coasts has defended its action saying that when the stormy weather subsides, much of the sand will return.

On Friday, the Department of Coasts finished the replenishment of Ferrara Playa in Torrox Costa ready for Easter, but by Saturday, the weather had once again turned the beach into a mess. Beach erosion is a constant problem for the municipality.
Ruins of Roman temple found in Torrox Costa
Torrox Council has initiated archaeological work in the vicinity of the existing Roman ruins near the lighthouse after a local resident uncovered lintels and fragments of columns pertinent to a first century Roman temple.
Torrox residents complain about illegal encampment
Last year, in the area near the mouth of the rio Torrox close to the lighthouse, there were about fifty people living or sleeping rough. This figure has since grown to around 200 and the local residents have had enough.

Following the completion of the repaving of the promenade at Ferrara Playa, a €1,5 million project financed by the First Plan Zapatero (State Fund for Employment), Torrox Council now wants to renew the lighting and the street furniture.

More than half of the promenade at Ferrara Playa in Torrox Costa is now designated as being maritime-terrestrial public domain land since the coastal areas were realigned by the Department of Coasts, a dependency of the Ministry of Environment.
Protests continue in Torrox Costa
For the second week running, the Platform for the Defence of the Beaches in Torrox organised a protest on the N-340 coastal road, cutting traffic in both directions on Monday, with local businessmen and residents demanding a permanent solution to the problem of beach erosion in the municipality.
