Torrox Council has unanimously approved a motion by Councillor for Town Planning, José Luis Pérez Moreno (IU), to sign an agreement with the Provincial Public Housing Company, Emprovima, to cede a plot of land in El Peñoncillo for the construction of 32 VPO (subsidised) houses. The houses would be on the basis of ‘rent to buy’.
Axaragua to increase charges
As from January 2011, residents in Vélez-Málaga, Rincón de la Victoria, Algarrobo and Torrox will see a 36% increase in the water treatment rate charged by the water company Axaragua.

Expect the unexpected
An interesting and unexpected visitor to Torrox from Saturday to Monday as a Griffon vulture remained perched on the roof of a house near the river. The Guardia Civil were tempted to capture it but in the end decided against such a course of action and the bird eventually flew away of its own accord.
Torrox feria fiasco
The secretary general of the Union of Local Police and Fire Brigade Malaga (UPLBA), Francisco Corpas, has issued a press statement regarding the recent situation in Torrox whereby, during the feria, a local security company had to be hired to guard the police headquarters due to the majority of officers reporting sick.
PSOE demand resignation of Torrox Mayor
The secretary general of the PSOE in Torrox, Francisco Muñoz, has demanded the resignation of the mayor of the town, Antonia Claros (IU), and Councillor for Citizen Security, Manuel Palomas (PP), following the farcical situation with the Local Police force which led to a private security company having to be hired to guard the Police Headquarters.
