Torrox Council has been forced to hire a private security company to protect the Local Police Headquarters after virtually the entire force of 34 officers reported ‘sick’.
José Pérez to be mayoral candidate for Torrox
José Pérez, who was mayor of Torrox from 1992 to 1992 as an IU member, has announced that he will be running for mayor at the next elections as a PSA candidate. After his first stint as an IU mayor, José Pérez disappeared from the political scene for a few years before returning in 2007 as leader of the PSA.
Second sewage plant in Torrox in final phase of testing
After four years of uninterrupted work in Torrox (as opposed to 40 years of uninterrupted dithering with neighbouring Nerja), the new, and second, Residual Water Treatment Station (EDAR) is in the final phase of testing and is already operating at 80% capacity.
Torrox Council approves 2010 budget
The quadripartite Government team (IU, PSA, PIU, PP) in Torrox has finally approved the budget for 2010 which includes plans for around €10 million in infrastructure projects to be financed through the sale of various plots of municipal land.

Live music on Saturday September 18th at Venta Madrid with singer Ito Inza and guitarists Carlos Gutiérrez and Manuel Muñóz singing and playing some great pieces from the likes of Paco de Lucia and Tomatito. Torrox budget approval postponed
Torrox Council has postponed approval of the budget after the socialist PSOE raised questions about possible irregularities relating to the approval of the budget for the Municipal Tourist Board.
Torrox indoor heated swimming pool
After four years of delays, stoppages and administrative problems, the new indoor heated swimming pool could be finished by the end of September. Or perhaps early October.
Improvements to Torrox schools
This summer, Torrox Council has spent €300,000 on improvements to various schools in the municipality, including €60,621 to renovate the Mare Nostrum playground and €13,500 to build an exterior fence. The projects were financed through state, regional and municipal funds.
Torrox to try for third time to sell land
Torrox Council remains committed to selling three plots of municipally-owned land in Calaceite in order to try and balance their budget, despite the crisis in the building sector and the fact that two previous attempts to sell the land have not resulted in a single offer.
