Over one hundred sports coaches and volunteers from the Civil Protection in Malaga province will be taking part in workshops on the use of defibrillators. The courses are being organised by the Malaga Provincial Council and taught by members of the Civil Protection.
Spain urged to spend less on infrastructure projects and more on the real economy
The European Commissioner for Regional Development, Johannes Hahn, has said that Spain must spend more of its European funding on the ‘real economy’ and less on grandiose infrastructure projects, adding that the regions should introduce specialised economic strategies based upon the strengths of each region.
Nerja attracting more and more athletes
Nerja has become quite a popular destination for various sporting teams or individual athletes to come and train, especially during the winter months. In the run-up to Easter, there were athletes from Britain, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Sweden and Poland, amongst others, using the facilities at the Enrique López Cuenca Stadium.
Tia Hellebaut back training in Nerja
The Belgian athlete Tia Hellebaut, European high jump champion on 2006 and Olympic champion in Beijing 2008 has once again chosen to come to Nerja to train, using the facilities of the Enrique López Cuenca Sports Stadium.
Work experience programme
Since last March a total of twenty-two mainly local companies have signed up for the Programme for Professional Experience, an initiative designed to provide paid work experience for unemployed in the municipality who have had trouble getting a job.
German women’s national football team coming to Nerja
The German women’s national football team will be training in Nerja on November 21st, 22nd and 23rd in preparation for a match against Spain in Motril on November 24th. Negotiations are under way to try and get some of the training sessions to be open to the public. The team will be staying at the Hotel Balcón de Europa.
